What class should I register my child in?

What are the age requirements?
Your child must be the age required for the class within 30 days of the first class.

What's the difference between Recreational gymnastics and the Achievement Team?
Recreational Gymnastics:

Valleyview Gymnastics Club Recreational Programs are designed for participants of all ages from early childhood up to and including teen programs.

The Active Start Programs are specifically designed to address early learning and the development of gross and fine motor movements and socialization through a variety of activities in the gymnastics environment.

The Teen & Ninja Zone classes are designed to promote fitness, strength, and flexibility in Artistic gymnastics. Artistic utilizes the vault, bars, beam and floor.
Achievement Team:

The Achievement Team is ‘by invitation of coaches only’. Artistic gymnastics is for those who loves gymnastics and want to train 4 hours per week. The Achievement Team follows the USA Xcel Program.

What traits do you look for when inviting someone to the Achievement Team?
We look for the following traits:​

good listening skills
-
basic skills (not yet developed but showing potential) such as strength, flexibility, agility, speed, coordination, expression, and posture.

positive attitude – not giving up

good communication skills

How do I pay for Valleyview Gymnastics classes?
Please use the Registration link at the top of the page or contact us with any questions. We use the Uplifter software for registering for classes, you can pay with a credit card or e-transfer sent to vvgymnasticclub@gmail.com.
What should my child wear for class?
Any of the following:
One-piece gym suit under pants
Leggings
Leotard with feet out
No hoodies or pants with cords
No jewelry
No gum
Bare feet must be used
Long hair must be tied back

Are your classes insured?
Yes! We are insured through the Alberta Gymnastics Federation insurance provider. The yearly cost per GFA registrant is $60.00 and that is covered when you purchase our yearly membership.

What are your term dates?
Dates are listed under the recreational classes heading at the top of the page.

Are snacks and water bottles permitted?
Everyone is encouraged to bring a water bottle. Food and drink other than water are not permitted inside the fieldhouse.
Am I allowed to take photos?
Parents are NOT permitted to take photos during regular practices due to family and staff privacy policies. Taking of photos is permitted only at special events and parent viewing nights.

How often do you disinfect your facility?
We take great pride in the cleanliness of our facility, which is cleaned and disinfected regularly. Our staff also disinfects the facility daily after classes. If you encounter any issues, please notify any board member.

Are there change rooms?
Yes, the Greenview Regional Multiplex allows our gymnasts to use the changeroom in the gymnastics fieldhouse. Please do not bring valuables to the gym. There is also a gender inclusive bathroom (family bathroom) located in the hallway of the GRM.

Is there a lost and found?
Yes, found items will be kept in our gymnastics storage room. The Greenview Regional Multiplex also has a lost and found located at the front desk.

What is the yearly insurance fee?
For the safety and security of yourself, your child and everyone at our facility, ALL program participants must purchase insurance. Insurance is effective from July 1 to June 30 of the following year and the annual fee is $60.

Do you give progress reports?
Yes. Login to your Uplifter account and click on evaluations.

Why should I sign up to Remind 101?
You will receive text messages informing you of bus days, cancelled classes, makeup classes, fundraising opportunities, opportunities to earn volunteer points, parent viewing dates and many more important details, you don't want to miss out!

What if I can't afford the programs?
Kidsport and Jumpstart provide grants to children from families facing financial barriers so they can participate in registered sport programs.

Are your coaches qualified?
Yes! All our coaches have been trained and/or certified by the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). They are trained in Emergency First Aid and CPR, have their Respect in Sport certificate and have been successfully evaluated within the Making Ethical Decisions program.
Every coach 18 & over is required to submit a current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Can we still join your classes after the term has started?
Yes, we do accept late entrants. If there is a late entrant they will be considered for enrollment if there is a spot in their appropriate class, if there is not they may choose to stay on a waiting list. The cost of classes missed will be deducted and taken off the registration fee except for the $50.00 yearly insurance fee, which covers insurance through the Alberta Gymnastics Federation.

Can parents watch?
Yes, parents are welcome to watch from our viewing area.
Privacy: Please do not take any pictures or videos anywhere in the gymnastics field house. Even if your goal is to take your own child’s photo, you may unintentionally capture the image of another participant. As parents do not have consent from other parents to share their child’s image, we ask that no pictures or videos be taken anywhere in our field house.
What is your ratio of children to coaches?
Alberta Gymnastics Federation recommends a 8:1 ratio, we currently run a 6:1 ratio or less as we have NCCP trained coaches volunteering in our classes.

The day or time I registered for no longer works for us. Can we switch to another day or time?
Yes, we will try to accommodate your child in another class date or time.

Do you offer refunds?
Gymnastics for all classes:
If your child does not continue after the first two weeks of class, partial refunds will be issued. After the second week of class, there will be no refunds made, with the exception of family relocation outside of the Valleyview community or doctor's medical note and any post-dated payments will be cashed. The yearly membership registration/insurance cost is non-refundable.
Cancellation by the participant prior to classes commencing will be given a full refund.
Achievement classes:
No refunds will be issued unless there is a medical reason accompanied by a doctor’s note. The current month’s training fees are not refundable; however, if the medical reason will prevent training into the following month, and the gymnast can still come in to do reduced training or condition only, training fees may be prorated or reduced to reflect reduced hours.
Gymnastics program mandatory closure:
If the Valleyview Gymnastics Club is required to shut down for longer than 3 weeks, we will extend our season if necessary. Credits will be up to the board members discretion.

What is the refund/ cancellation policy, in the event my child is unable to attend camps?
Any cancellation of camp participation must be given 7 working days prior to the camp commencement date. Cancellations made 7 working days in advance will receive a full refund of camp reg. fee including the $20.50 insurance fee. Cancellations received within 7 days of the registered camp sessions will only be eligible for camp reg. fee 50% refund.

There will be NO refund for late camp arrivals, early camp departures or for any camper who withdraws after the start of the registered camp session.

In the event, your camper should become ill, and it’s in the camper's and/or the camp's best interest for the camper to not participate, there will be no refund.

Camper withdrawal during the registered camp session due to an injury will receive a camp credit note valid for 1 year from the date of the camp session.

The credit note is only available to campers with an injury sustained at the registered camp session. Credit notes will only be issued for injuries certified by a medical practitioner to prevent the camper from physically taking part in camp activities.

V.G.C. reserves the right to dismiss or refuse, without refund, any camper whose conduct is detrimental to themselves, to the camp, or to other campers.

If I miss a class, can I get a credit, or do a make-up lesson?
If you miss a class, we do not give credits or offer make-up lessons. Your registration fee pays for a class spot for the entire session regardless of attendance.

In the event of inclement weather, will classes be cancelled?
Classes will continue as planned although the school buses are not running.

How do gymnasts join the Achievement Team?
Entry into our Achievement Team is by invitation or assessment only. Participation in an assessment session does not guarantee a spot in the program.

Do you run programs in the summer?
Not at this time.

Can I be a part of the Parent Board of Directors?
ABSOLUTELY. We elect a new board every May at the Annual General Meeting. Please see the About page for positions.
